Like most of the fash-hungry population, we here at MTV Style just LOVE ourselves a good awards show. The sparkle of every sequin and bead, the sheen of every satin and silk – we want it all. From the red carpet to the stage to the pre-taped vignettes, the starlettes of tonight’s 2011 Emmy Awards pulled out all the stops, and so compelled were we by the parade of scintillating beauties, that we HAD TO note our top ten dresses from the night.
LEA MICHELE
Lea Michele stunned on the red carpet in a bright red floor-length Marchesa gown. She kept things simple with natural make-up and glossy, straight hair, left down. All the better to showcase the drama of the dress’s ruffled shoulder embellishments and sweeping open back.
SARAH HYLAND
Modern Family‘s Sarah Hyland shows a little (OK, a lot) of leg in a pleated coral one-shoulderChristian Siriano dress, which she said she helped design! Do we smell another career for Ms. Hyland down the road? We will seeee!
EVAN RACHEL WOOD
Evan Rachel Wood donned a slinky, black, bead-encrusted Elie Saab cap-sleeve gown with a natural waist and body-hugging silhouette for a look that channeled old Hollywood glamor, thanks also to her glowing porcelain skin and blonde pin-curl waves.
KELLY OSBOURNE
YOWZA! Kelly Osbourne was a vision in this plum fishtail J. Mendel, looking regal and blissfully HAPPY. Like, how statuesque is this sweetheart bustline with asymmetrical straps? And the uber-flattering ruching? We can’t. We die. SO GOOD.
NINA DOBREV
Nina Dobrev brought so much Jessica Rabbit va-va-voom WERK to this near-uncharacteristic Donna Karan gown with a voluptuous hourglass shape, courtesy of a strapless boned bustier and voluminous bustled skirt. The pairing of a solid mani, simple collar necklace, and soft flowing waves worn over one shoulder added to the vixen quality of this ensemble.
CLAIRE DANES
Claire Danes opted for an adventurous Oscar de la Renta strapless column gown. The dress, covered in blue sequins, featured an abstract pattern which caught and reflected the shutterbugs’ flashbulbs so elegantly.
SOFIA VERGARA
It’s no surprise our fiery Colombian girl Sofia Vergara showed up in a red hot one-shoulder Vera Wang gown. The trails of chiffon knotted all across the dress add a touch of softness to Sofia’s skin-tight dress.
Minka Kelly is sheer elegance (heh) in her long-sleeved lace navy Christian Dior dress with a black velvet belt. She swept her hair back in a soft updo and wore absolutely no accessories. Simply gorgeous!
AUBREY PLAZA
Aubrey Plaza looks romantic in an all white Juan Carlos Obando halter dress. Her retro side-parted waves and dark-rimmed eyes add an extra touch of sultry beauty to her look. P.S.—Nice shoulders, girl. DANG. Do you work out?
HEATHER MORRIS
Heather Morris is all about the DRAMA at the Emmys! Her layered upon layered purple ruffledMasai Payan gown paired with her larger-than-life updo screams, “I HAVE arrived!” #Swoon. We so do love our sternum game. Tasteful and dramatic.
